One of the most unique American Automobiles ever built was a two door 1932 Brunn-Lincoln Double-n-Tree sport coupe. Only two were built by Hermann A. Brunn of Brunn & Company located in Buffalo, NY.

The unique doors on these Series K Lincoln's have latches and hinges at both ends permitting entry from the left or right. The mechanism was of Italian origin by Pinin Farina. Brunn ordered some examples and obtained a license from Pinin Farina to use the design.

A good deal of re-designing and re-engineering had to be done on the mechanism and hinges to hold up the heavy 64 inch door on the big Lincoln. This was done by Victor Lang a Brunn and Company engineer.

At Each End Of The Door

How did this Double-n-Tree door work? Basically it consisted of a combination latch and hinge at both ends of the door permitting it to be opened at either end. Releasing a latch on one end of the door automatically locked the latch into the hinge at the other end. The Double-n-Tree door could not be opened at both ends at the same time.

What was the reason for the Double-n-Tree door? The Double-n-Tree door allowed the occupants of the rear seats of a two door four passenger automobile to enter and leave without disturbing those in front. With the Double-n-Tree door it was unneccessary to tilt the backs of the front seats.

The Lincoln Series K's first appeared in 1931 and was a splendid machine that was beautifully built and handsomely furnished. In 1932 it was equipped with a 125 horsepower V-8 engine on a 136 inch chassis or a 150 horsepower V-12 engine on a 145 inch chassis. The Double-n-Tree was built on the 145 inch chassis and equipped with the V-12.

About 25 different models in the Series K line was available. Prices range from $3,200.00 for a two passenger Sport Coupe to $7,000.00 for a Lincoln Limo. About 4,000 Series K Lincolns were built the last in 1940.
