In 1903 at Ormond Beach, Winton in his four cylinder Bullet racer beat Ransom E. Olds in his racer called "The Pirate" by only 2/10th of a second. It was at this Ormond Challenge Cup on Ormond Beach, north of Daytona Beach, that the American Automobile caught the attention of the motoring public. Ormond Beach is now called the "Birth Place Of Speed" thanks to Alexander Winton, Barney Oldfield, Ransom E. Olds and the Stanley Brothers.

The Winton Bullet No.1 had a four cylinder vertical engine while the Bullet No.2 had a straight eight cylinder horizontal engine. Winton Bullet No.1 originated the unorthodox flatboat body. However the Winton Bullet No.2 took it to a new level because of the horizontal engine.
