Discover more about the British Library by taking a tour of our building - we have two offers to choose from or why not combine the two?

Building Tour

Discover more about our history, collection and architecture on a tour of the public areas of the Library. The tour includes a visit to our Viewing Gallery where you can see some of our Reading Rooms and find out how books are stored, accessed and delivered. Tours on Sundays and Public Holidays include a visit to a Reading Room.

Tours last approximately 75 minutes and leave from the Information Desk.

Introduction to the Treasures of the British Library

This 45 minute walking tour introduces you to some of the most iconic items held within the British Library collections. Find out more about our King’s Library collection which once belonged to George III and the Klencke Atlas, the second-largest atlas in the world. Your guide will introduce you to some of their favourite items on display in the Sir John Ritblat Gallery, where over 200 of the Library’s most iconic items reside.

Information for both tours:

  • Tours are available for groups of up to 15 people and cost £100; please note that whilst we can often accommodate more than one group, the Introduction to Treasures tours cannot run concurrently
  • Group tours are available Monday-Friday, excluding bank holidays
  • Advance booking is essential - please contact us at least two weeks in advance
  • We can offer a combined tour at the reduced group rate of £170. Please get in touch for more details.
