Diversity

Great organizations thrive and grow on a diversity of thought and ideas. The Times’s statement of values calls for us to embrace diversity and inclusion. These factors require that we report on our diverse cities, nation and world, with perception and insight. Only by having a staff as wide as it is deep, broad in perspective, backgrounds and experiences are we able to capture the multitude of voices of America and the world, with true fidelity.

Our Mission

The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community that we serve. Our journalism and the products we build in the service of that journalism greatly benefit from a range of perspectives that can only come from diversity across our ranks, at all levels of the organization. Our dedication to diversity and inclusion is the right thing to do, and it is also the smart thing for our business.

Employee Resource Groups

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) bring people together as a way to educate and promote an environment of understanding, acceptance and diversity and inclusion among all employees.

Our diverse workforce strengthens our competitive position in an increasingly challenging marketplace. Along with providing a forum for members to discuss challenges and opportunities, ERGs help support the company’s diversity and inclusion strategy by collaborating with Talent & Inclusion and business and newsroom leaders on:

  • Talent acquisition
  • Employee engagement
  • Education and awareness
  • Branding/Communication
  • Enhance The New York Times Company’s reputation as an employer and news provider of choice
  • External partnerships/community outreach
  • Business opportunities
