Surf’s up, dude. On… Lake Tahoe.

The first big storm of the season is rolling onto the West Coast this week, prompting flood advisories and threatening a foot of snow in the northern Sierra Nevada. A flash flood warning was issued for the areas impacted by wildfires last month, as torrential rain fell on scarred ground. Flash floods are more likely in these regions because the runoff is quick without vegetation.

The storm also generated gusty winds into the Sierra, where Lake Tahoe is located. Those winds are churning up the lake and creating large waves that were crashing onto the shore on Wednesday.

We wouldn’t recommend surfing Tahoe without a dry suit, though — water temperature is only in the 50s.
