As a member state of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), China works to fulfill its relevant obligations and makes reference to IAEA guidelines in monitoring the safety of the nuclear power stations in the mainland.
Using Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station as an example, its operation is under the oversight of National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) based on regulations in line with international practices and guidelines as promulgated by the IAEA. NNSA carries the authority to issue the operating licence of Daya Bay and places officials at the Daya Bay site with full access authority.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) regulates the environmental impact of the operation of Daya Bay. It also conducts close monitoring with its radiation monitoring facility at and around the power station to ascertain that there has been no significant change in radioactivity around Daya Bay.
