Recommended Browsers
We aim to produce a standards compliant site with backwards compatibility. For full functionality and display we recommend you use FireFox at least version 2 or Internet Explorer version 7 as your browser.
1. FireFox
To setup FireFox:
- Install or upgrade to the latest stable release of the FireFox browser from www.mozilla.com/firefox
- Go to www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/fonts and follow the instructions to download fonts to ensure the mathematical equations delivery (MathML) is fully supported
- Visit the MathML test section and check the third example which will indicate whether the MathML fonts have been applied correctly
2. Internet Explorer 7
To setup Internet Explorer:
- Install or update to the latest stable release of the Internet Explorer browser from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
- Go to www.dessci.com/en/products/mathplayer/ and follow the instructions to download and install the MathPlayer plug-in to ensure the mathematical equation delivery (MathML) is fully supported
- Visit the MathML test section and check the third example which will indicate whether the MathML fonts have been applied correctly.
3. Other browsers
We recommend you use The Dictionary with the FireFox and Internet Explorer browsers as described above. The site has however been produced to work in as wide a range of browsers as possible while supporting a full feature set.
Older browser versions will display with a simplified visual appearance and JavaScript features will be disabled. We use PNG images in The Dictionary and some older browsers may not be able to display them.
Earlier versions of Internet Explorer (such as 4 and 5) may have some limitations in visual appearance and you may see some JavaScript errors. Do not install MathPlayer into Internet Explorer version less than 6 as this will cause display problems.
We would recommend you upgrade to the latest stable release of your browser.
