Our mission is simple: to bring you a carefully edited selection of the best architecture, design and interiors projects and news from around the world.
Dezeen was launched at the end of November 2006 and has grown rapidly ever since. Our audience has grown each year and by February 2017 we were getting 2.5 million unique visitors per month, making us one of the 7,500 most popular websites on the planet according to Alexa, as well as the most popular website about design.
We are also the most commented design site in the world and the only site in our sector to be featured in an Apple product launch (in fact we have featured in two of them).
Dezeen also runs Dezeen Jobs – the internet's most vibrant architecture and design jobs board and Dezeen Watch Store, the world's leading designer watch store, offering a carefully curated selection of timepieces by leading designers and independent brands.
Awards
Dezeen has won many prestigious awards, including the BSME's Business Digital Editor of the Year 2015, where judges praised Dezeen as "a beautiful place to spend time", with "clear authority" in the architecture and design industries.
The award marked the end of a bumper year for Dezeen. We won the Commercial Partnership category at the AOP Digital Publishing Awards 2015 for our collaboration with car brand MINI. The Dezeen and MINI Frontiers project also won Commercial Campaign of the Year at the British Media Awards 2015.
Dezeen Studio, which produces Dezeen's video content, was named Best Content Studio at the 2015 Digiday Awards, and our video interview with Imogen Heap picked up People's Voice for best technology movie at the Webby Awards 2015.
Dezeen also picked up the 2015 BSME Rising Stars award for Best Use of Social Media.
In 2013, editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs won BSME's Business Web Editor of the Year, with judges describing Dezeen as "seductive" and offering a "satisfying user experience".
We won the AOP's Digital Business Publisher of the Year in 2012, where we were described as "a smart entrepreneurial brand, with beautifully designed products - from websites to pop-up shops". Judges also noted our "strong evidence of experimentation, fast growing revenue and audience".
In 2014 we were highly commended in the AOP's Business Website of the Year category, with judges describing Dezeen as "stunningly beautiful" and praising our "excellent use of video, mobile and social media".
In 2013 we were named Digital Service of the Year at the IBP Awards, where our journalism was described as "amazingly high quality".
In 2010 we were named Best Creative Business at the Hackney Business Awards.
Dezeen in the news
UK newspaper The Times included Dezeen in its list of the 50 top websites you can't live without in January 2013.
We featured prominently in the launch of Apple's iPhone 5 in September 2012 and again in the launch of the new MacBook Pro in October 2012.
In 2012 UK newspaper the Independent named us best architecture blog in the world.
Dezeen was included in Time magazine's Design 100 list of the most influential forces in global design (below), and in Design Week magazine's Hot 50 list of key figures in design.
The Dezeen story
Dezeen was started as a simple blog in 2006 by Marcus Fairs, author of Twenty-First Century Design (published October 2006 and republished in June 2009) and Green Design (published March 2009) and former founding editor of icon magazine.
In 2007 he was joined by Rupinder Bhogal and together they set up Dezeen Limited, which they now run as co-directors. They launched the recruitment site Dezeen Jobs in 2008, followed by Dezeen Watch Store in 2010.
Dezeen has published two best-selling books: Dezeen Book of Ideas in 2011; and Dezeen Book of Interviews in 2014.
A furniture design graduate, Marcus began his journalism career writing for publications including Blueprint, The Guardian, The Independent on Sunday and Conde Nast Traveller. He launched icon, the international architecture and design magazine, in 2003, and edited the publication until November 2006.
Under Marcus, the magazine rapidly established itself as one of the world’s most influential and respected design journals, winning a string of awards including Launch of the Year and Designer of the Year in 2003 and Monthly Magazine of the Year in 2005 and 2006. Marcus himself has won numerous awards, including Journalist of the Year (2002) and Architectural Journalist of the Year (2004). He won a BSME award for Best Brand-Building Initiative in 2005.
He also regularly appears on radio and TV, writing and presenting a documentary about French designer Philippe Starck for the BBC in 2003 and appearing in the major BBC series Home in 2006. An accomplished public speaker, Marcus has spoken at conferences in London, Tokyo, New York, Stockholm and Cape Town, among others.
As founder and editor-in-chief of Dezeen, Marcus has won awards including the BSME's Business Editor of the Year in 2013. In the same year he was named one of the 100 most influential figures in the UK creative industries by the Hospital Club. In 2011, French magazine Architectural Digest placed him in the 100 qui comptent list of the most important figures in global design.
Marcus lives and works in London.
Rupinder is a modern languages and European studies graduate with a background in television documentaries. She has worked for the BBC and independent production companies including October Films and Windfall Films working as production manager on many award-winning programmes.
