Tesla Motors is transforming how people drive with its long-range electric vehicles and expanding national recharging network. The company started small, basing its first model—an electric 2-seat roadster—on a Lotus Elise. Learning from this, the company introduced the large Model S, a 5-door fastback with approximately 250 miles of range and space for 5 people. The 7-passenger Model X crossover SUV uses the same platform as the Model S, wowing owners with “falcon wing” rear doors. Next, the smaller Model 3 promises more affordable electric mobility in a stylish package. The company is named after Nikola Tesla, a physicist and electrical engineer.
