Clean Air Asia became one of the first foreign NGOs to be officially registered in China in 2018, receiving its registration certificate on March 14 in Beijing, with the Ministry of Environmental Protection as its professional supervisory organization.
Clean Air Asia Executive Director Bjarne Pedersen said the registration – which came in the wake of the enactment of the China’s Overseas Non-Governmental Organizations Law last year – was another milestone for the organization’s work in in China and our China office.
“We will now accelerate our work in China by helping Chinese cities on a path to better air quality and lower emissions, with a focus on reducing air pollution from key sources such as energy provision, industrial activity and transport.”
“With the official certificate, Clean Air Asia will continue its mission all over China, including building the capacity of Chinese environmental officials, conducting research on air pollution control policies, and informing stakeholders for proper actions,” said Clean Air Asia China Director Fu Lu. “I hope our effort will help China win the battle for blue skies.”
Launched in 2001, Clean Air Asia is an international NGO aiming to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in Asia and contribute to a more livable and healthy region for all people. Headquartered in Manila, Clean Air Asia also has offices in Beijing and Delhi.
Since 2002, Clean Air Asia has worked in China to improve air quality management and promote green transportation. Clean Air Asia has established the country’s largest air quality management network and is assisting more than 150 cities in improving ambient air quality. Clean Air Asia has also developed a national program on green freight with partners and is helping China move towards a greener freight industry.
