Bundaberg Regional Council operates the Centre from 9.00am to 3.00pm, Mondays to Fridays. The Centre provides an enjoyable social program for its members who are aged or younger people with a disability. The program which includes music, concerts, quizzes, cards, exercises, outings for drives & BBQ's is designed to maintain, develop and support the capacity for independent living and social interaction. Morning Tea & two-course midday meal are provided.

Carers also benefit by receiving much needed respite from their caring role. The Centre can arrange transport, if required, and offers its member's services including hairdressing and referral to podiatry and other allied health services.

 

 

Mission

To benefit our clients, staff, volunteers and community, by providing a creative program that seeks to enhance each person's quality of life, and to support them in remaining independent in their own home and their community.  

We do this by:

  • Providing a service where every person is uniquely valued and treated with dignity and respect.
  • Having an increased focus on restorative approach including wellness and reablement.
  • Expanding and enhancing our programs so as to be innovative in meeting member needs in maintaining and promoting independence in activities of daily living, social interaction and personal interests.
  • Improving the structure of our volunteer and community worker programs, so that participants perform tasks under a system of clear work instruction with access to training, and efficient and effective staff supervision and direction.
  • Promoting involvement from members, carers, staff, volunteers and other community stakeholders.
Who Needs Us
For our members attending the centre our programs are designed to develop, maintain or support each individuals capacity for independent living and provide them the opportunity for social interaction.

Cost
There is a daily fee to attend the centre which includes meals. Members are not excluded from attending if they are financially disadvantaged. Payment of fees is a confidential arrangement between the client and the coordinator. 

Hours of Operation
The Gracie Dixon Centre operates from 9.00am to 3.00pm from Monday to Friday. An answering machine is in operation outside of working hours and all calls will be returned.

Bargara Day Respite – A short term break with long term benefits. 

Bargara Day program operates every Thursday from 0930 – 1330 hrs.
During these hours, qualified staff and volunteers run a quality activities program which includes craft, board games, reminiscing, passive exercises and quizzes. Our focus is on being socially connected.

A delicious morning tea and a light lunch are provided. The day program operates as a site of engagement and meaningful experience for aged people and younger people with a disability.  Bargara Day Program provides a safe physical and emotional environment and opportunities to exercise physical, intellectual and social choice.

Gracie Dixon Respite Centre also runs a Men's Group on Fridays

ACCESSING SERVICES

For those under 65 or under 50 if indigenous 

ONI (Ongoing Needs Identification) screening required to assess eligibility can be done through Community Care Access Point or staff at Gracie Dixon Respite Centre.  Access Point staff will find out whether you are eligible for services, discuss your needs and put services in contact with you. If you would like services from Gracie Dixon it is important that you state this at the time of screening.

For those 65 and over or over 50 if indigenous

Screening is required to access eligibility and can be done through My Aged Care.  My Aged Care will find out whether you are eligible for services, discuss your needs and put services in contact with you.  If you would like services from Gracie Dixon it is important that you state this at the time of screening. 

Alternatively you can contact the Gracie Dixon Centre and they will complete an online referral on your behalf and My Aged Care will contact you.

DEMENTIA CAFÉ  1st Friday of the Month

Morning Tea & Guest Speakers Family, Friends & Members of the Community – All Welcome

If you are a person with dementia, or you suspect you may have dementia, attending our Café will provide you with: Information about dementia; Support to help you handle the illness; Contact with health professionals so you can have your questions answered; The help you need to lead as normal a life as possible, despite dementia and; Put you in contact with services for assistance. Talking about the problems that having dementia brings can help you better manage your own situation. You will get to meet other people who are in the same boat as yourself and find out how others deal with the illness and feelings of powerlessness, dislocation and distress.If you are a family member or friend of someone with dementia, attending the Café will provide you with strategies to help you cope as communication becomes more difficult for your loved one and as their behaviour changes. You will find our Dementia Café a relaxed and informal setting, where you can find out how to deal with dementia and its consequences.

The Coordinator will arrange an appointment to assist you in completing a screening. If the Gracie Dixon Centre is unable to assist you, the Coordinator will let you know of other suitable services and can arrange for a referral, which will meet your needs.
