Update on the iPhone SE camera situation: Apple has sent me a new SE sample, and taken back the first unit for internal analysis. I quickly redid some camera testing between the SE/8/11Pro, and the new unit exhibits none of the optical issues first encountered in the article.

I don't know if Apple will share the results of the internal analysis - but I highly suspect a manufacturing defect on the optics of that first phone. I hope I just got one in a million dud and it doesn't affect a batch of more phones in the production run.

I'll be updating the article with new samples and analysis in the next few hours. The new unit is significantly sharper, and keeps up and is even better than the iPhone 8 - as one would have normally expected it to be the case. HDR/colours are unchanged.

I've updated the article with new samples: https://www.anandtech.com/show/15745/the-iphone-se-2020-quick-review-reinvigorated-classic/4 … The old page is still in the article for transparency on the matter.
