Become a Patron

Envisaged by the late P.D. James OBE FRSL, our Patrons programme is instrumental to our work and vision for the future, and provides vital financial support for our outreach in disadvantaged schools, portfolio of awards and prizes, and annual programme of talks, discussions and readings.

Good books have the power to challenge prejudice and transform lives. They provoke debate and provide comfort, entertainment, companionship and information. I support the RSL so that everyone can have access to, and enjoy, good literature – now and in the future.

Alice Jolly
RSL Patron

Patrons receive all benefits of RSL Membership, plus exclusive invitations to literary events, such as the RSL Ondaatje Prize dinner in May, and other partner events throughout the year.

Thank you to our Patron Fellows and Members for their generosity over the past twelve months:

The Patron scheme

The RSL is a registered charity; we could not continue to work for readers and writers without the generous support of our Patrons who share our passion for literature.

Our Patron donations start at £1,000 per year and go towards all areas of our work.

As a Patron Member you will be able to:

  • Take advantage of priority booking of guaranteed free tickets for you and a guest to all of our public events
  • Attend exclusive events including awards ceremonies
  • Receive the annual RSL Review magazine
  • Attend the RSL summer party and presentation of new Fellows ceremony
  • Take part in RSL Members’ Book Groups
  • Support our charitable aims as the national voice for the value of literature.
