User Survey - Sports-Reference.com
In an effort to better serve our users, we've posted a feedback form on our overall company site, https://www.sports-reference.com.
In addition to your feedback, we are looking for a couple dozen volunteers to sign on for occasional, additional surveys and perhaps some early beta testing of new features. We are calling these volunteer groups Sports Reference User Boards. You can still give us feedback without having an interest in being on a user board.
Thank you, as always, for your support and feedback.
I forgot to mention it in my survey, and not sure if I should fill out another survey.
But one feature I would like to see is a player comparer. I'd like to be able to pull up Jim Kelly and Dan Marino, and compare their season-by-season stats (at least the basic ones) side by side to compare their careers.
Richie, keeping in mind that a season has 2 parts-Reg. and Post, I think you will find that these 2 guys will match-up pretty much the same way that Marino will match up with almost any other QB. Dan's numbers will be somewhat better to significantly better in the Reg. season and then the reverse will be true for the PO's. I'm mostly basing that on Chase's chart from a thread in June of '08 that showed that Marino's "VALUE" to his Team in the PO's had NEGATIVE numbers for 10 of his 18 games, and add to that 2 games with values of 3, and 7. That represents two/thirds (12 of 18) of his PO games. That's pretty pathetic.
This is a special case in a way, since these 2 guys met 3 times in the PO's, so we have to look at head-to -head also. Marino led his team to 7 wins over Kelly and the Bills in the Reg. season. Dan had 11 TD's and only 3 Int's. He had an avg. passer Rating of 96.5 for those 7 wins. Then, in the PO's, Dan had 6 TD's and 7 Int's and an avg. Passer Rating of only 64.0 Those 3 PO games not surprisingly all ended in losses for Dan and his Team. He did not get it done in the playoffs.
I don't feel like filling a survey, but y'all need to adjust your Passing Yards Per Game data, maybe by using Games Started or something. For example, you've got Tony Romo at around 190 yards/game because he was a back up his first two and a half years (seeing action as a holder), when he's actually passed for over 270 yards/game in his career.
Give it a rest, Bob. I was just giving a hypothetical example.
Richie, you could have said that you wanted to be able to compare any QB's, but instead you said specifically Kelly and Marino. That aside, you picked the perfect pair to illustrate a point: each guys numbers don't always tell you everything. Look at how differently each guys biggest accomplishments could have changed if the guy with the better numbers would have played like he was capable of playing. Instead of Kelly leading his Team to 4 S.B.'s and Marino only 1, it could have been Marino 3 and Kelly only 2. Marino may have had a better Passer record but Kelly had a better QB record.
