You forgot the 2011 Eagles with McCoy, Vick and Ronnie Brown
In fact, no team has ever entered the season with four 1,000 yard backs on their roster.
But you list the 2007 and 2008 Giants with the exact same four players.
So if the became 1000 yard rushers in 07 they would start 2008 as such. If the last one got his 1000 yards in 2008 they were not in 2007.
To me something seems to be wrong here...
some of thes are sort of cheating. for example f the 2008 giants Ahmad Bradshaw didnt have a 1000 yard rushing season till 2009.
So how did it happen that the '8 Giants didn't have 4 1000yd rushers on the roster at the start of the season, when those same 4 guys were on the '7 team?
Chuck - Ahmad Bradshaw didn't first hit the 1K mark until last season.
And this list includes people who later had 1000 yard seasons? For instance the 1997 Giants are listed, but Tiki Barber only rushed for 511 yards that year (his rookie year). He wouldn't have his first 1000 yard season till 2000
Yes, exactly Dan.
Oh, I assumed they had to have done it in the past to be listed.
Chuck,
Because this list is for teams with four players who, at one point or another, rushed for 1000 yards in a season. Take the 2008 Giants: Droughns (2004) and Jacobs (2007) had rushed for 1000 yards in previous seasons, Ward would join the club in 2008, and Bradshaw didn't make the mark until 2010.
That doesn't seem to be quite the same thing then - I wonder if / how many teams have had 4 people that have ALREADY rushed for 1000+ yards in a season
Dan -- no team has had four active players on their roster with 1,000-yard seasons under their belts. I'm sure at some point it will happen, but given that the 1,000-yard mark was a milestone for a long time, it's not too surprising that no team ever entered the year with four such players. A countervailing force to the increased prevalence of the 1,000-yard rusher is free agency, and now teams like the Giants find it difficult to hold onto three solid running backs.
How close has a team been to having 5 1,000-yard rushers on their team? Meaning, how low would you have to drop the threshhold to get 5 guys on the list?
@8 Chase, the '76 Redskin players listed all achieved 1000 yards during or before the '76 season. Were they all on the roster at the end of the season when Mike Thomas reached 1000 yards? - I don't know.
I remember it being mentioned just before the 1995 season that the Vikings didn't have a running back on the roster with 1,000 total career rushing yards. The three primary RBs that year were Scottie Graham (724), Amp Lee (696), and Robert Smith (505). All three would go over 1,000 yards by the end of the season.
The overall team leader? Warren Moon, with 1,596 career rushing yards to date.
Tim, on point 8, I was referring to before the season. The Texans will be in the same boat if Tate gets to 1K this year.
Re: 10
Yes.
Eagles have 3 this year: Vick, McCoy, and Brown. If they sign Tiki, they've got the quad-play!
I was excited to see this huge list until I realized they didn't enter the season with 1k under their belts. Unfortunate.
