We need your help to translate WhatIsMyBrowser.com

We want whatismybrowser.com to help as many people as possible; including those who don't read English, so we need your assistance!

If you can translate some or all of this site into your native language then we would love you to get involved. Please send us a message and get in touch. Tell us which language/s you're able to translate the site into and we'll get back to you with more information.

What you'll need to do

There are two types of translation that we use on the site:

1) Translating short bits of text

There are lots of short bits of text on the site that can be translated - these are mostly on the Homepage and other common parts of the site - such as the Navigation and Footer.

To translate these bits of text, we'll provide you with a single text file that contains the various "strings" of text to translate. You just need to read the English string and then add the translated version in the blank text beneath it. A few example lines from the file:

#: main/templates/main/includes/content/welcome-to-the-site.html:3 msgid "Description of the website" msgstr "" #: main/templates/main/includes/content/welcome-to-the-site.html:4 msgid "What Browser? Help with problems on the internet." msgstr ""

You can see the English text on the msgid line and the empty msgstr line underneath it. That's where we need you to put the translated version into.

At the moment there are about 300 short bits of text that need to be translated, that might sound like a lot, but if it only takes you a few seconds to write the translated version beneath then it actually doesn't normally take very long to translate the file.

2) Translating guides, articles, and detection pages

If you would like to help translate various guides, articles, and detection pages (eg How to enable cookies or Is JavaScript enabled) then we will provide you with a zip file containing all the various templates to be translated.

You would then simply open the various files in your text editor/IDE of your choice and replace the bits of English language with the language you're translating into. These files are the actual HTML templates that we use for the site, so you'll see a bit of basic HTML, but it should be easy to understand.

For example, here's a snippit from one of the HTML templates:

<h2>What is JavaScript?</h2> <p>JavaScript is a programming language that Website developers can use as a part of creating websites.</p>

You would just replace the English text with the language that you're translating to, keeping the HTML tags in place.

At this point we've only translated these pages:

But we'd eventually love to translate all the guides, detection pages, and articles too. If there's a guide you'd like to see translated then let us know and you can help!

Thanks to our Translators!

Here's everyone who's helped us translate the site so far. We'd love to put your name here too, so get in touch and let us know that you can help.

Thank you very much!

We welcome any corrections

The translations of German, Spanish, French, and Portugese were all done with Google Translate. Google Translated seemed to do a "good enough" job, but we understand that nothing compares to having a native speaker do the translations. So if you've noticed anything that's "not quite right" with those translations then don't hesitate to let us know and suggest an improvement.

Before you start, please take a moment to look at the Translations section of our Legal Terms & Conditions.
