Zéna Meskaoui

Zéna Meskaoui's area of academic expertise is Art History (modern and contemporary) and Critical Theory, with a special emphasis and interest in Lebanese and regional artistic production. She has designed, developed and taught a number of courses at both undergraduate and graduate level. The list of recently taught courses includes: “Art Appreciation for Freshmen”, “Art Theory” (tutorial), “Modern Art”, “Renaissance to Modern”, “Special Topics in Art Theory”, and “Theories of Modern Art”. Meskaoui’s experience includes trans-disciplinary activities in curating, educating and organizing. She is active with the AUえーゆーB Nature Conservation Centre, helping in punctual projects, involving art, and aiming at preserving the biodiversity in Lebanon, with the support and participation of local, rural communities of the targeted areas. In 2005, she contributed, as assistant and co-director, to the opening and launching of a contemporary art gallery in Beirut (Sfeir-Semler). In 2004, she was the art director for the LAUえーゆー Major Production,Ayyam Beirut. Her publications include, “Dignity (R)evoked: Art in Lebanon—A Reading in Between Lines”, "Signifying Bodies”, "Texts under ‘Trajets”, “La Ville”, “Vous Qui Habitez des Noms”, “Emplacement”, “Performing the Body: Haifa Wehbi in the Becoming”, “Tristesse, Au Jour le Jour”, “Toujours Pas Ma Guerre” and “Mohamad El Rawas’ Art-Worlds”.
