SSHSPH AlumNite

Pre-Commencement Celebration on 11 July 2019

Faculty, alumni, current students and graduands gathered on 11 July for an evening of reunion and celebration at SSHSPH AlumNite 2019 held at Park Avenue Rochester Hotel.

Vice Dean (Education), Associate Professor Jeannette Lee addressed the graduands, congratulating them on their achievements and for completing their studies. She also shared her hopes that they would stay in touch and return for future AlumNites, this time as alumni.

This year, alumna Ms Petrina Ho (MPH ’12) was invited to share about her SSHSPH education and public health experience. Ms Ho is currently Assistant Head of Corporate Communications at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). She shared the importance of MPH – not to stand for Master of Public Health, but to remind graduands and students to find Meaning in what they do, Persevere and chase it to the end, and embrace difficulties with a sense of Humour.

The School also recognised the outstanding academic accomplishments of our students, as well as dedication of our student representatives. A/Prof Lee and Vice Dean (Research), Associate Professor Alex Cook awarded the prize recipients of the Dean’s List, Tye Cho Yook Gold Medal, Dean’s Medal and Prize, Graduate Student Research Award and Lee Hin Peng Medal. After the programme, guests helped themselves to a sumptuous buffet, took silly photos at the photo booth and got their caricatures made into keychains.

Pre-Commencement Celebration on 13 July 2018

The night before the SSHSPH Commencement Ceremony saw alumni, students and faculty come together to celebrate the achievements of the SSHSPH Class of 2018.

Professor Teo Yik Ying, Dean, welcomed the guests and addressed the graduands, congratulating them on completing their studies and also encouraging them to never falter in their public health mission as they embark on a new chapter in their public health journey.

To recognise the outstanding academic accomplishments of the students, Prof Teo and Associate Professor Jeannette Lee, Vice Dean (Education) awarded the prize recipients of the Dean’s List, Tye Cho Yook Medal, Occupational and Environmental Health Society Medal, Richard Gillis Prize, Dean’s Medal and Prize, Graduate Student Research Award, and Wang Gungwu Medal and Prize.

The School also invited alumnus Dr Gan Wee Hoe (MPH ‘11), Director of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Unit, Division of Medicine, Singapore General Hospital, to share his personal public health experience and journey during the event.

After dinner, guests participated in a special segment called ‘Show, Don’t Tell’, where they picked an activity that could foster interaction and bonding between alumni and students, and acted it out in a photo challenge. The panel of judges—comprising A/Prof Lee, Dr Gan and Student Life Director Dr Raymond Lim—voted on the best photo based on creativity, teamwork and relevance to the proposed activity, and awarded the winning table with $300 worth of Capitaland vouchers.
