- USS Snook attacked a large Japanese convoy in the Pacific Ocean. After sneaking past 11 escort vessels, she fired five torpedoes, two of which hit and sank the passenger-cargo ship Koyo Maru. ww2dbase [Snook | CPC]
- A British Swordfish aircraft sank German submarine U-713 near Allied convoy JW-57; all 50 aboard were killed. ww2dbase [Arctic Convoys | CPC]
- Frank Merrill met with the battalion commanders, combat team commanders, and reconnaissance platoon commanders of US 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional) in Ningbyen, Burma as the troops prepared to embark on a long range penetration operation into northern Burma. ww2dbase [Battle of Myitkyina | Frank Merrill | Ningbyen | CPC]
- As gusty winds continued in the harbor at Casablanca, French Morocco, escort carrier USS Card broke loose from her moorings again and began swinging in her berth. Card’s flight deck smashed against the bridge of British freighter Shirrbank causing minor damage to both. Card shifted to the outer harbor where her anchor was carried away leaving her adrift. Card then got underway to the open sea on her assignment one day earlier than anticipated. - USS Sunfish attacked a Japanese convoy off the Mariana Islands, sinking transports Kunishima Maru and Shinyubari Maru, hitting them with 7 of 13 torpedoes fired. ww2dbase [Sunfish (Gato-class) | CPC]
- 39 Polish boys between the age of 13 to 17 originally from the Zamosc region were brought from Auschwitz II-Birkenau to block 20 at Auschwitz I.
