Product Description

In October 2007, Professor Takuma Nekasa uncovers a gene code that will unlock our body's greatest mystery and expose mankind to its greatest threat. So Gawl, Koji, and Ryo - three young scientists from the future - must travel back in time to correct this mistake from the past. The catch? They have only three months to save the world from the mysterious and cunning Ryuko Saito and her Generators, unearthly assassins posing as humans. As Ryo and Koji try to complete their mission, Gawl must become like his enemies to fight on their terms. And it may cost him his humanity. A thermonuclear fusion of action, comedy, and mystery, Generator Gawl draws you into its web of intrigue with eye-catching art, startling plot turns, and compelling characters. ADV Films' release of the Generator Gawl Perfect Collection contains the entire twelve episode series on four discs in the English language, as well as the Japanese language with English subtitles. DVD extras include character sketches and ADV previews. Generator Gawl was created by the writing and directing team of Seiji Mizushima and Hidefumi Kimura (Dai-Guard), and produced by Tatsunoko Productions (Battle of the Planets).

Entertaining, fast paced, and suspenseful, Generator Gawl combines elements of Evangelion and the Terminator movies with a brash good humor all its own. During a furious storm, three young men materialize in Tokyo in 2007: friendly, blond Ryo; aloof, intelligent Koji; and offbeat, irrepressible Gawl. They've come from the future to prevent biologist Takuma Nakasa from making the discoveries that will enable scientists to turn humans into metamorphic "Generators." Posing as students at prestigious Oju Academy, the trio take a room in the home of fellow student Masami. The eternally curious Masami drags her gentle friend Natsume into her investigation of the attractive lodgers. But they don't want to be investigated: they need to keep anyone from learning Gawl is a Generator who transforms into a fantastic monster to destroy the creatures protecting Nakasa. Director Seiji Mizushima skillfully balances the comic arguments between Gawl and Masami with philosophical discussions and hard-hitting action sequences. Koji, Ryo, Masami, and Gawl are ultimately pitted against the megalomaniacal Ryuko Saito in a conflict that determines the fate of humanity. The filmmakers never really resolve the paradoxes inherent in characters from the future attempting to change the past, but they make the story so engaging, it seems churlish to cavil over mere problems of logic and physics. Voice actors Monica Rial (Natsume) and Vic Mignogna (Gawl) offer exceptional performances, taking their characters from farce to tragedy in believable arcs. Unrated; suitable for ages 12 and up: Brief nudity, minor profanity, grotesque imagery, risqué humor, violence. --Charles Solomon

This is, hands down, one of my favorite shows of all time, anime or no. It ties with "Ronin Warriors" as being my favorite anime of all time. The story itself is really great and, while we've probably all seen something similar, the way it's told is a ton of fun watching. I can also say this is probably one of the only times I have ever respected, if not liked, all of the characters in any show - even the villains, one of which I hate as a person, are a joy to watch as their interactions with the other characters illicit so many different reactions for me as the viewer. This is also the first anime I ever saw all the way through, and this time, I hadn't seen it for a couple of years because our family copy has been out of reach. When I found one I could afford myself, I leaped at the chance. I have shown this show to many people over the years, all of whom have loved it for one reason or another. It's only twelve episodes long, and while I wish sometimes it was a little longer, if only because I love the world and characters it built so much, I really appreciate the fact that there are hardly any "filler-ish" moments, if there are any at all. It's also incredibly detailed. I've seen it more than half a dozen times through the years, and I still notice something new every time I watch it. It is also one of the only animes I've seen where both the English dub and the Japanese sub are wonderful and make complete sense all on their own. The characters are slightly different in either one, but still fundamentally the same people. The main character in English is voiced by Vic Mignogna (He's sounds so young!) and the bickering he and the female lead ad-lib the entire time in the background is priceless, not to mention all of the other voice actors. I wish I could see more of some of them in other animes, like the voice actor for the blonde character, Ryo, because all of their deliveries were amazing.

Overall, this series is a joy to watch at all times, and, because it's so short, you can actually watch with someone else in one sitting it you're so inclined to do so. Some people didn't like the first few episodes compared to the last few because they are considerably more light hearted, it's true - I was (sort of) one of them at first, until the second time I watched the series and realized how essential they are the plot and character development, not to mention all of the details in them I hadn't noticed before. I will say, however, that even if you don't like them, the last few episodes more than make up for them, and the journey all together is a really wild, funny, tense, and awing one. "Generator Gawl" is one of those shows that will make you feel like someone punched you in the face, like your brain has been turned inside-out, and like you're an absolute idiot for not putting all of the pieces together before (I've never met anyone who was able to figure out ALL of them more quickly than doing so right before or as everything is being revealed). In short, the pacing, the story itself, and the characters are all amazingly handled. Every anime and show in general, I believe, should have as much thought put into it as this show. While the ending may seem a little awkward at first, the more you think about it, the more it seems perfect for the characters involved.

This is the perfect sci-fi story with a great deal of heorism in different ways, fantasy, and mystery about it, not to mention humor with a good wit, great tension building, and a true understanding of story telling. I 100% recommend this show not just to anime lovers, but to anyone that wants to watch something that will make them think, laugh, and possibly cry, all at the same time.

I'd have to say this is one of the greatest animes I have ever laid eyes upon, and it's truely a pity that not everyone knows about it. I got the perfect collection for Christmas and I absolutely adore it! The characters are believeable (except for Natsume's hair, but what can you do?) and the plot, I must say, is astounding!
Some of the perks: Excellent (and funny) English dub, amazing animation, humor, awesome storyline, nifty bad guys, unexpected plot twists, and they don't use the same transformation scene every episode!
Bad things: Way too short, Natsume's hair (it's a pet peeve).
I recommend this anime to anyone and everyone who enjoys anime. It's most definately one of my very favs. Check it out, you won't be sorry! =^.^=

Grafica molto curata, decisamente un buon prodotto, ben presentato.... Conoscevo già l'anime e anche questo l'ho aggiunto alla mia collezione; il prodotto è molto economico come confezione, ma i contenuti video sono ben definiti e di qualità....
