On 2005's well-received GUERO, Beck succeeded in fluidly incorporating most of his musical personas--rhyme-ready rocker, wistful folk troubadour, funky white boy, etc. Later in the year, Beck released GUEROLITO, a track-by-track reinterpretation of the former record featuring remixes by various peers and admirers. The 14-track outing, which also includes the frenetic non-album song "Clap Hands," begins with Homelife's "Ghost Range," a radical reworking of "E-Pro" that replaces a straightforward rock vibe with busy, burbling layers of added instrumentation, including cellos and violas. Longtime Beck friends Air and Adrock (of the Beastie Boys) also offer up winning contributions, with the former transforming "Missing" into the dreamy, synth-heavy "Heaven Hammer" and the latter tweaking "Black Tambourine" into the dub-like "Shake Shake Tambourine." Other highlights include Boards of Canada's shimmering take on "Broken Drum" and Diplo's "Wish Coin," which turns the bluesy "Go It Alone" into a shuffling dance track. While this dynamic disc stays true to Beck's adventurous aesthetic, it also takes his songs down intriguing (and sometimes unlikely) back roads, making it as fascinating and enjoyable as the original album.

This is the best Beck, IMHO! Broken Drum, Hell Yes and Rental Car were songs I DESPISED on 'Guero'. 'Guerolito' added new ingredients, terrific music that turned me into a convert. I just received it in the mail, and I haven't STOPPED listening. It's addictive, creative, and a feast for your ears. My faves are "Ghost Range" (E-Pro) BEST SONG, "Qué Onda Guero", "Terremoto Tempo" (Earthquake Weather), "Broken Drum", "Emergency Exit" (both albums) and Heaven Hammer (Missing), normally I find AIR to be rather insipid.

Como parte de los planes de mercadotecnia de las compañías de díscos, y ante la cada vez más notoria baja en las ventas de los "formatos físicos" (CD, Vinil o cosas más raras como el Cassette), se editan varias "versiones" de algunos álbumes, bautizados con etiquetas tales como "ediciones especiales, deluxe, collectors editon" y otras a más rimbombantes. Generalmente, estas ediciones incluyen lados B, canciones inéditas, descartadas y lo más común, los "remixes".

Este Guerolito de Beck fue un álbum que contiene el total de tracks del álbum "Güero" (2005) mezcladas por diversos artistas, y que aparecieron en diversos Ep's; más la canción "Clap Hands" que solo apareció en la versión "Deluxe" de este álbum y que ahora, hace su debut en vinil.

Musicalmente, los estilos de los mixes van un poco más allá de la mera transición hacia ritmos bailables y algunos de ellos son bastante interesantes, sobre todo al usar sintetizadores que recrean la música de videojuegos de 8bits ("Ghettochip Malfunction").

Excelente álbum, altamente recomendable para los seguidores de Beck Hansen y para aquellos que estén interesados en saber como sonaba la música en el lejano 2005...
