K-Pop Legend Lee Sun Hee Breaks 5-Year Hiatus & Tops K-Pop Hot 100

The queen of K-pop, Lee Sun Hee, broke her five-year hiatus from the scene with her massively-anticipated 15th album “Serendipity” on March 25. The excitement has translated to the K-Pop Hot 100 as the lead single “During That Meet Your” swings in at No. 1 this week.
The effort thwarts Soyou and Jungigo’s quest to break the all-time chart record — set by Lee Seung Gi in January 2013 — with “Some” unable to spend a seventh week at No. 1.
The soft, piano-driven ballad, which was crafted by Park Guen Tae and Kim Eena, showcases Lee’s powerful vocals that have helped her stay on top of the game for 30 years. Lee Sun Hee launches her 30-year anniversary concert in Seoul, Korea, on April 18.

Bro’s debut track, “Such A Man,” blasts to No. 2 this week after its Kakao-inspired music video became a viral phenomenon in Korea. Kakao is a mobile texting app with more than 20 million domestic and international users.

Lee and Bro’s bows means that Soyou and Junggigo’s “Some” has finally relinquished its hold from the top of the K-Pop No. 1. After tying the all-time chart record, “Some” falls two slots to No. 3 in its eighth week on the chart. The incredible chart feat kept even K-pop’s most popular girl groups and soloists from the chart summit until Lee Sun Hee broke the streak.

With springtime just around the corner, it signals the return of new K-pop classic “Cherry Blossom Ending” by indie trio Busker Busker. After spending two weeks at No. 1 with the track when it first debuted in April 2012, the single returned to No. 1 a year after its initial chart reign.
Now, two years after its release, “Cherry Blossom Ending” has creeped its ways back to the top of charts, this week at No. 6. Could it earn yet another unprecedented chart record and return go three-for-three years as a chart topper? Check back in the coming weeks to find out.
