KRK Rokit 5 speakers are the crown jewel among the audio gear in today’s M1 Max MacBook Pro setup. The rig belongs to an iOS and macOS developer who only counts music production as a hobby. But we’ll take his vote of confidence in a fine audio product.

We’ve seen the Rokit 5 boxes in setups a few times, not often, but we have no doubt they sound great and look good doing it.

KRK Rokit 5 speakers crank in developer’s music production setup

iOS and macOS developer and Redditor EpicSyntax (“Syn”) showcased the beautiful setup in a post entitled, “Updated MacBook Pro setup for Software Engineering and Music Production.”

“I’ve recently replaced my terrible desk top with the Ikea Karlby and I absolutely love it!” he said of his updates, none of them audio-related. “Also added Pain and Madara Pop dolls and LED strip behind the desk for that cool orangey effect. Not the best cable management, but ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat.”

On Wednesday we covered Syn’s still-crankin’ M1 Max MacBook Pro and OWC Thunderbolt 4 dock, which appear to keep handling his intensive work quite well (despite racey newer options coming out). On Friday we turn to audio, because Syn is not only a software developer. He produces music, too.

Commenters expressed curiosity about the speakers, which don’t appear all that often in setups, though we’ve seen them here and there. They’re studio monitors, often used in desk setups.

“These are KRK Rokit 5 4G studio monitors,” Syn said. “I actually love them. The sound reference for music production and media consumption is very accurate once positioned in the right angles, like most studio monitors.”

KRK says Rokits have always been its top sellers. The Rokit 5 features low-distortion Kevlar drivers pushed by an efficient Class D power amp with a built-in brickwall limiter. An optimized high-frequency “waveguide” ensures a deep and wide sweet spot as well as accurate imaging.

The speakers’ low-resonance enclosure and front-firing port yield low-end response. Digital sound production maximizes the acoustic environment with room correction, an LCD visual EQ and more. And you can control everything with the KRK app on an iOS or Android device.

“I was in the market specifically for studio monitors since I’m doing music production as a hobby and needed something that would give me a flat frequency response for more accurate editing,” Syn said.

He find the RKR Rokit 5s do the job nicely.  They net a rating of 4.7 stars on Amazon based on 826 reviews (94% four and five stars).

He also uses a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface in his work with music, as well as an enviable set of Massdrop X Sennheiser HD 58ZX Jubilee Headphones.
