Monkey Man follows a young man named Kid (played by Patel), who works at an underground boxing club while plotting revenge for the murder of his mother.

Patel both stars in and directs the action movie, which marks his directorial debut. Monkey Man is also co-produced by Jordan Peele, known for Nope, Us and Get Out.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Peele confirmed he'd like to work with Monkey Man's leading star again on a future film project.

The film originally debuted on movie aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes with an 100% rating. It's since dipped to a still-impressive score of 88%.

We gave Monkey Man four stars at the time of its release, calling it "brutal, political and deeply entertaining".

"As a directorial debut, Monkey Man is an astonishing accomplishment, a stylish and fervid movie with incredible visuals, political awareness and a sense of fun. It's a rounded experience like very few we get these days," we said in our review.

"Patel seems born to do this — on both sides of the camera."

Monkey Man is available to buy or rent in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more.
