BRENTWOOD – A fast-moving vegetation fire that scorched 250 acres Wednesday afternoon in Brentwood was fully contained early Thursday, according to Cal Fire.
The Empire Fire began around 3:20 p.m. near the intersection of Empire Mine and Deer Valley roads in an unincorporated area of Brentwood, the state fire agency said. The fire initially burned 50 acres and grew to 100 acres within an hour before crews managed to stop its forward progress, the agency said in a social media post.
It did not grow overnight.
Cal Fire said shortly before 9 a.m. that the fire had been 100% contained.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Brentwood’s fire joins a list of other big wildfires that were burning in Northern California.
In Fresno County, the Basin Fire began Wednesday and grew to 2,636 acres by 12:25 p.m. Thursday, Cal Fire said. That fire is one of four that has spread in that county since Monday.
The Fresno June Lightning Complex Fire merged Tuesday from three individual fires — the Hog, Flash and Bolt fires that all started from lightning strikes — and had burned 9,225 acres and was at 29% containment by 12:31 p.m. Thursday. It is currently the largest active wildfire in the state, Cal Fire said.
In Modoc County, the Clear Fire started Wednesday afternoon and had scorched 700 acres by 8:15 a.m. Thursday. It was 10% contained, according to Cal Fire.
