Film festivals in Italy

The Venice International Film Festival ( ) is the oldest international film festival in the world. Founded by Count Giuseppe Volpi in 1932 as the "Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica", the festival has since taken place every year in late August or early September on the island of the Lido, Venice, Italy. Screenings take place in the historic Palazzo del Cinema on the Lungomare Marconi and in other venues nearby. It is one of the world's most prestigious film festivals and is part of the Venice Biennale ( ), for over a century one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world (founded in 1895). It is known world-wide for the International Film Festival, the International Art Exhibition and the International Architecture Exhibition, and continues the great tradition of the Festival of Contemporary Music, the Theatre Festival, now flanked by the Festival of Contemporary Dance.

Moscow International Film Festival (Russian: , translit. Moskóvskiy myezhdoonaródniy kinofyestivál; abbreviated as MIFF), is the film festival first held in Moscow in 1959. From its inception to 1995 it was held every second year in July, alternating with the Karlovy Vary festival. The festival has been held annually since 1995.

Cartoons on the Bay is an international festival held in Italy dedicated to television-, film- and transmedia- animation. The Pulcinella Awards are presented at the festival for excellence in animation production. Its purpose is to promote the activity of authors and producers from all over the world, offering an opportunity to meet with buyers, distributors and television managers. It is organised by the public service broadcaster RAI. The festival has been staged in Amalfi, Salerno, Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino, Positano, Venice and Turin.

The Giffoni International Film Festival is one of the most well-known children's film festivals in the world. It takes place in a small Italian town of Giffoni Valle Piana in Campania, Southern Italy, close to Salerno and Naples. Started in 1971 every year over 2,000 children attend the festival from several countries around the world. During the festival, children and teenagers watch the movies, learn about the filmmaking process, and are called to judge them and award the best ones with prizes. This 44-year-old festival has had a great impact in the history of entertainment and culture, not only in Italy, and it has developed a high reputation internationally. Every year the festival attracts 100,000 guests, directors, producers, and movie stars annually. The festival has been brought to many different countries around the world with Poland, Argentina, Australia, Albania, China, Korea, India, and the United States having all hosted their own versions of the Giffoni Film Festival. The Giffoni Hollywood Film Festival in the United States has proven to be the biggest so far.

Ischia Global Film & Music Festival, also known as Ischia Global Fest, is an annual festival of film and music held on the Italian island of Ischia each July. Founded in 2003 and as of 2023 still directed by Pascal Vicedomini, the festival presents awards to films, filmmakers, actors, musicians, and artists in a wide variety of categories.

Al Ard Film Festival is an international film festival aimed at popularising Palestinian and Arab culture and art. The festival takes place in Cagliari (Sardinia) once a year and has been organised since 2002 by the Associazione Amicizia Sardegna Palestina (Sardinia-Palestina Friendship Association), a volunteering organisation founded in 1997 in the Mediterranean island.

Rome Independent Film Festival (or RIFF) is an annual film festivals held every year in November in Rome, Italy to represent and promote independent filmmakers globally. The festival was started in 2001, and it's 17th event was held in 2018. In November 2019, the 18th festival event will be held.

Rome Independent Cinema Festival is an annual film festival held in August in the Rome, Italy. The festival is organized by HF Productions, and was first held in August 2018.
