The capital city of the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh other than its famous lake is known for the signature embroidery art of Bhopal. The zardozi craft in Bhopal has been in practice for more than 300 years. The artform first came to India from Persia and translates literally to gold embroidery. However, the vedic literature also describes something similar to this art form.

To reach through the process of Zardozi, Kalabatun is the original step towards it which uses silk threads. These threads are then wrapped in real gold or silver; later sewn onto different fabrics. These also use pearls, beads, sequins, etc. to further enhance the attire.This art form was used to embellish tent walls and tapestries, as well as accessories for the elephants and horses of the royal families in Bhopal during the mughal era. However, this embroidery artform like others is not only practised in Bhopal but also in parts of the country with different names and place specialisation.
