New Delhi, the national capital of the country, is on ‘orange’ alert for the next 3 days. On Saturday, there was no relief from the searing heat as the maximum temperature settled six notches above the season’s average at 44.6 degrees Celsius, officials said.
On Sunday, similar weather is likely with mainly clear skies and heatwave conditions in several parts of Delhi.
The “orange” alert stands for “Be prepared” in the India Meteorological Department (IMD) colour codes. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 45 and 32 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, the IMD forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in parts of Andhra Pradesh for five days from June 15 to 19.
Thunderstorms are expected in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, Rayalaseema, and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP).
Southwest Monsoon
Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Odisha, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next four to five days, said the Met Department.
Similar conditions are expected in parts of Gangetic West Bengal, the northwest Bay of Bengal, the remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and some regions of Bihar.
In Himachal Pradesh, the centre has issued an extensive heatwave warning for the coming days in a few pockets of Sirmour, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Una, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Kullu, and Solan.
In western Rajasthan, the Met department has predicted thunderstorm activity for the next two days and in eastern Rajasthan for the next four to five days.
