‘A Real Pain’ trailer sends Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin on a road trip of self-discovery [Watch]

Who would make for the more uncomfortable travel partner, Roman Roy or Mark Zuckerberg?

That’s a question you’ll ponder while watching the new trailer for “A Real Pain,” a road trip dramedy starring Emmy-winning “Succession” star Kieran Culkin and Oscar-nominated “The Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg. Eisenberg is also the writer and director.

Eisenberg and Culkin play David and Benji, respectively. They’re cousins who are very different from each other and take a trip across Poland to honor their beloved late grandmother, who survived the Holocaust and escaped the country. Long-standing tensions between them resurface as they get deeper into their family history.

In addition to Eisenberg and Culkin, the cast includes Will Sharpe (“The White Lotus”), Jennifer Grey (“Dirty Dancing”), Kurt Egyiawan (“House of the Dragon”), Liza Sadovy (“A Small Light”), Daniel Oreskes (“Only Murders in the Building”), and Ellora Torchia (“Midsommar”). Producers include Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Dave McCrary through their Fruit Tree banner, Ali Herting, Jennifer Semler, and Ewa Puszczyńska.

The film premiered at Sundance in January and earned very positive reviews. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman wrote that Eisenberg has entered an elite tier of actors-turned-filmmakers that includes Greta Gerwig, Ben Affleck, and Bradley Cooper. Eisenberg won the festival’s Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. The film is getting Oscar buzz for Eisenberg’s screenplay and Culkin’s supporting performance.

“A Real Pain” will be released in theaters on Oct. 18 via Searchlight.
