What: A profusion of royal purple flowers burst forth in early summer and continue for weeks. This non-vining clematis is more perennial-like, growing to only 3 or 4 feet annually and then dying back to the base in the winter. SAPHYRA INDIGO™ is attractive supported by a shrub or sturdy perennial, growing through a wire or wooden structure, in a container or rambling along the ground among low-growing companions.
Where: Plant in full sun for best flowering, although this clematis will tolerate light to open shade. The soil should be rich and well-drained.
Size: Reaches 4 feet high by 2 feet wide in 10 years.
Care: Water at least twice a week during the dry season. Cut the stems back to 4 to 6 inches in late winter.
