Demi Lovato Opened Old Wounds, Then Other Child Stars Joined In

In early April 2008, a few dozen people, including me, filed into a recording studio in midtown Manhattan to meet Disney’s “Next Big Thing.” That was how the company introduced a then-15-year-old Demi Lovato to the world, or to roughly 30 members of the media and advertising community. The wide-eyed teen was in New York for the […]

“F*** the Haters”: Matt Rife on Comedy, Controversy and his Serious Acting Ambitions

Roughly five minutes into Matt Rife’s new special, he lays out the framework for his audience. The War for Laughs: Why Streamers Are Battling for Stand-Up Comics

At the tail end of June, Bill Burr took the stage at Seattle’s Moore Theatre, where he filmed his eighth stand-up special. Reggie Watts Did Not Prepare for This

Reggie Watts has embarked on a time-travel odyssey back to the ’90s, and he’s hoping audiences will join him. On July 20, he’s rolling out his latest hour, which is set pre-Y2K and weaves together improvisational comedy and musical riffs to form what Rolling Stone has called a “vortex of surrealist entertainment.” Watts prefers the […]

Reality TV Has a Major Parity Issue

American Idol. Dancing With the Stars. Shark Tank. Survivor. They’re all major unscripted formats — and they’re all created by men.
