Bhavnagar municipal election results today: Counting today

The results of elections to six municipal corporations of Gujarat will be announced on Tuesday. Gujarat has eight municipal corporations. Polling to six municipal corporations Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, and Bhavnagar was held on Sunday. The two newer ones, Gandhinagar and Junagadh, are yet to complete their five-year terms. Bhavnagar saw a voter turnout of 49.46 per cent on Sunday.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has said an average 46.08 per cent turnout was registered during voting which was held between 7 am and 6 pm on Sunday. Of the total 1.14 crore voters registered in these major cities of Gujarat, 52.83 lakh had cast their ballots, the SEC said in a release. Counting of votes polled in elections to six municipal corporations of Gujarat, including Bhavnagar, will be held today. The counting will start at 9 am. "Designated staff would begin the counting of votes from 9 am on Tuesday at various counting centres in these six cities. People can watch live updates on our website," said MV Joshi, secretary, State Election Commission told news agency PTI.

With assembly elections due next year in Gujarat, the civic body poll outcome will be an indicator of the voters' mood towards the Vijay Rupani-led BJP government in the state. The BJP won all six bodies in the previous elections and also has an upper hand this time too.
