My name is Katie Sardinha, and I live in Summerland, BC, Canada. Along with my husband Devon and my mom Julie, I help manage a third-generation, certified organic tree fruit orchard named Kaleidoscope Fruit Ranch, which we manage so as to provide a haven for biodiversity.
I am formally trained as a linguist, and received my Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2017. When I’m not busy tending to trees, I spend much of my time interviewing speakers and doing analysis on the Kwak’wala language. You can read more about my past and current work on my Linguistics page.
I’m drawn towards things that are complex and colourful. Some of my favourite things include people, language, ecology, the unconscious patterning of behaviour in society, DNA, fractals, evolutionary theory, circus arts, psytrance, metal, chocolate orange, psychedelic art, improvised music, Russian literature, mixed martial arts, spiders, lilies, and dark comedy.
In my spare time, I train in Brazilian jiu jitsu (I am a purple belt at First Strike Martial Arts in Penticton), aerial dance, music, and visual art.
I don’t participate in social media, but you are welcome to get in touch with me through my Contact page.
