The Justice Ministry announced Thursday the introduction of new visas aimed at recruiting and retaining foreign talent, with the country expecting around three million foreigners to reside in Korea within the next five years.

When I first arrived in South Korea, I had been dreaming of a two-day, one-night trip with new friends from my university, inspired by the many Korean dramas I had watched. However, for someone as introverted as I am, making new friends felt like an uphill battle. Luckily, I stumbled upon a simple registration link that opened the door to an unforgettable experience. Thanks to the Sogang Scholarship Association, I found myself on an incredible journey with fellow international graduate students to Busan, blending adventure and learning.

As a transfer student who joined HUFS in the autumn semester, I felt like I was a bit behind compared to other students who had already finished their first semester. Even though I could speak Korean, I was nervous to ask for help, especially since I didn’t know any seniors in campus. This experience showed me that while orientation was helpful, it missed some important details that could make things easier for new students. Here are a few tips and facilities I discovered that might help other international students settle in.

Dormitory Living: Peace and Quiet Living in the university dormitory has been one of the highlights of my experience. Having my own room gives me the peace and quiet needed to focus on studies and relax after a long day. Q) The term "scholarship" makes it sound like graduates can’t participate. Is that true?

A) Not at all! While it’s called a scholarship because the project aims to support international students living in Korea, the contest is open to anyone with experience living in Korea. Graduates, master's students and those not currently enrolled in a Korean university are all welcome to share their stories! As long as your review fits the topics, we’d love to hear from you. :)

Q) Can international students who no longer live in Korea participate?

A) Yes, absolutely! Even if you’re not currently residing in Korea, you’re eligible to participate. However, please note that winners will need a Korean bank account that can receive the scholarship funds. Make sure you have access to a valid Korean bank account for the transfer.

Q) What language should I use to write my review?

A) Please write your review in English. We ask that all submissions be written in English to ensure eligibility.
