The Co Longford villages of Ballinalee and Bunlahy were celebrating the life of General Sean MacEoin this weekend.
The General Sean MacEoin Commemoration Weekend, which was launched by Col Raymond Yorke, covered all aspects of MacEoin’s life. Throughout the weekend, a number of events were scheduled in honour of the late general, including a blacksmith demonstration, a battle re-enactment and a lecture on MacEoin himself.
On Sunday, June 16, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny visited Bunlahy, the birthplace of General MacEoin, to unveil a plaque in the Longford man’s honour. Afterwards, Mr Kenny made his way to Ballinalee to unveil a statue dedicated to MacEoin and the members of the North Longford Flying Column.
It was a big weekend for both villages, with crowds gathering to remember and honour a local hero.
