National Centres of Excellence in Research (NCER)

The National Centres of Excellence in Research (NCER) programme of the Luxembourg National Research Fund provides a framework and funding instrument to bundle research excellence around a mission of significant societal relevance by encouraging high-level transdisciplinary research and intersectoral collaboration. NCER projects should become internationally recognized examples of best scientific practice, both with regards to the outcomes and impact of research, as well as in the way research is carried out.

NCER-FT

National Centre of Excellence in Research in Financial Technologies

The University of Luxembourg inaugurated the National Centre of Excellence in Financial Technologies (NCER-FT) on 29 March 2023. The NCER-FT is an interdisciplinary initiative that focuses on the financial industry’s technological challenges and opportunities. Led by researchers from the University of Luxembourg’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF), the NCER-FT implements a singular interdisciplinary research and innovation approach, combining expertise from technology, finance, and law.

Clinnova

Clinnova, an international project involving clinicians and researchers from Luxembourg, France, Germany and Switzerland, has been officially launched in Luxembourg on 27 April 2023. The initiative aims to realise benefits of precision medicine for treatment decisions through data federation, standardisation, and interoperability. The project is supported jointly from the FNR, the Grand Est, the Canton of Basel Stadt as well as Baden-Württemberg and will establish a shared launchpad for medical AI algorithm development in the heart of Europe. The University of Luxembourg is represented by the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine in the Clinnova programme.

NCER-PD

National Centre of Excellence in Research on Parkinson’s Disease

NCER-PD was launched in 2015 as the first National Centre of Excellence in Research with a focus on Parkinson’s Disease. The NCER on Parkinson’s Disease was launched in 2015 as the first National Centre of Excellence in Research. The national partners are the University of Luxembourg with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB),  the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), the Laboratoire national de santé (LNS) and the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL). Their common goal is to continue to integrate research into the national health system and to establish Luxembourg as an excellence centre in research on PD beyond the country’s borders. International partners are the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Centre, the Hertie-Institut für klinische Hirnforschung in Tübingen, the Paracelsus-Elena-Klinik in Kassel and the National Institutes of Health in the USA.
