Google is overhauling its Android Device Manager app, which is basically Android’s equivalent of Apple’s “Find My iPhone.” Now the two are much closer in name. As reported by Android Police, Google is in the process of rolling out a big update to the device-tracking software — and it’s getting a new, much more sensible name: Find My Device. You can expect to hear more about the update minutes from now during the I/O 2017 presentation, but the redesigned app is already live in the Play Store.

Find My Device has received a significant visual refresh from its prior incarnation, which was last updated in 2015. It still provides the same security functions, letting users track their Android smartphone or tablet, lock the device, play a sound, or put it into a lost mode for better odds of retrieval. The look has been switched up somewhat. Devices are now shown horizontally at the top, which makes them easier to switch between.
The app is now listed as Find My Device by Google Play Protect, which suggests that Google might be making some announcements about app security at the I/O keynote due to kick off shortly. Android Police’s David Ruddock previously surmised that “Google Play Protect” is essentially just a rebranding of the app scanning and security measures that Google already has in place to safeguard Android devices.
