Doris Day Chart Profile

This page lists the song chart entries of Doris Day. The songs are listed with the most widely successful first.

Before 1958 the informal Billboard charts often listed songs without crediting artists (because the focus was sheet music sales rather than records) or they list band leaders without vocalists or vocalists without band leaders. In order to be consistent some of the songs have been assigned to band leaders or artists (based on entries in the Billboard and other charts). There is no way to be both consistent and to reflect the artists credited on the record labels, were a choice has had to be made we have attempted to opt for consistency.

Doris Day Hit List

'ANNA' is no where in Doris Day's discography. Did you make a big mistake?

Certainly not a "big" mistake in any case

The entry comes from the BB Year end chart of 1953.

#8-(Why Did I Tell You I Was Going To) Shanghai

Per Joel Whitburn & Wikipedia there are at least (4) 1951 recordings of thissong that made the US Billboard Charts. There is this one by Doris Day & (3) other ones simply titled 'Shanghai'. Since they are all the same song I feel they should all be given the same title. The other (3) are 1. Billy Williams Quartet 2. Bing Crosby & 3. Bob Crosby.

Data fixed, thanks

Spelling correction

#66 should be Lover, not Lovey.

Great website!

Data fixed, thanks

8 Sep 2014

Confess

Confess was sung by Doris Day and Buddy Clark not Doris alone.

That does look right, the data has been fixed, thanks

Where can I get sheet music of some of Doris Day songs.

We don't have sheet music here, just chart listings

Song Artist 112

I'm not 100% sure, but i Believe Tony Bennett has the longest/widest span of entries in the charts 1953 - 2011, (in 2011 he was 83 years old). Just a funfact. Love your site.

Update:

Sorry the span is 1951-2011.

The longest span we have is Enrico Caruso (1900-1999) however that was before real charts were available.

In the "modern" era we think that the top 7 spans are:

Perry Como 1943-2009 66 years, Count Basie 1937-2002 65 years, Doris Day 1947-2011 64 years, Nat King Cole 1941-2005 64 years, Dean Martin 1949-2010 61 years, Tony Bennett 1950-2011 61 years, Ray Charles 1949-2009 60 years

Of course most of those had hits after they died, but Doris Day is still alive (we think she's 90).

can you print or record the song by Doris Day...A Guy is a Guy in the Google?

No. This site has listings of chart positions, it does not have sheet music, lyrics or music files.

later than you think

did doris day every sing later than you think in any movie?

2 Feb 2012

omissions

you have some major omissions, especially of top hits by Doris Day with Les Brown. For example: "MY DREAMS ARE GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME" (and about 11 other Top Ten Hits).

Some songs are listed by the band leader and others by the singer, it depends on how they appear in the original charts.

The song you mention (and we guess the other 11 songs) are listed under Les Brown

Addition

I would love to see this wonderful site updated just a bit to include TOP SELLING HIT ALBUMS as well, especially, in this case, since Doris Day just had a Top Selling NEW album in 2011/12 that is still in the charts, MY HEART. She should get the credit where it is due!

The hit albums from this year always require some time before we can add recent data

Moonlight Bay

Just heard "Moonlight Bay" on the radio & it sure sounded like Doris Day. I do not see it listed above. She was such a role model to us girls back then. I'm 70 and have admired her all my life. First singing & acting and now animal rescue. A lady after my own heart.

I have a rescued Golden Retriever named "Calamity Jane"(CJ)

Golden Wishes!!!

The list here is of Doris Day's hits, not all her songs. Every entry here was a hit in some chart round the world.
