During this era music was dominated by a number of "Big Bands" and songs could be
attributed to the band leader, the band name, the lead singer or a combination of the them. It is
common, for example, to see the same song listed with three different artists. And, just to stop
us from getting bored, the success of a song was tied to the sales of sheet music, so a
popular song would often be perfomed by many different combinations of singers and bands
and the contemporary charts would list the song, without clarifying whose version was the
major hit. Where we have found such issues we have attempted to consolidate the entries
using the most widely accepted value for the artist in each case.

The love You Left Behind was written by Mrs. William John Deion, but I don'tknow who the name of the male singer is on it other than his first name is Jim. A record from Camdon Mucic Co. recorded the song in 1949. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Per Joel Whitburn this should actually be Gordon Jenkins & The Stardusters (rather than just The Stardusters).
Data fixed, thanks

I'm looking for a singer who recorded "If I had the heart of a clown" in either 1948 or 1949 - any help?
The only song we have with that title was by Bobby Wayne and was a minor US hit in 1952

Possibly "Dad's Song"
I wonder if Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo is the song remembered by the brothers.

Riders In the Sky (#1) was also on Peel List #1.
You are correct, there was a mistake in our listing, thanks for telling us

Steve Lawrence
Steve Lawrence certainly wasn't English and neither is he dead (sadly, his long time partner, Eydie Gorme is), so perhaps you may be thinking of Steve Conway, a fairly popular English singer in our pre-chart days, who died after heart surgery in 1952.

Rare Recording
I have what I think is a rare recording of a song recorded by Julie Conway and Dick Byron and Joe Crichio Orchestra. This song was released on the charts in 1949. It is a 78 on Dana Records, Manufactured by Dana Music Company New York City U.S.A.
What is rare about this copy is: it is recorded on mauve colored plastic or vinyl. The label is white with blue text. Besides the info on the label listed above, it states just below the Dana name, Disc Jockey Use Only. It has some scratches by still plays good for it's age.
I was wondering if you have any idea what this would be valued at?
If not, where could I find out?
We don't have any idea of vinyl prices. The site to look at would be http://www.discogs.com/ (to see how rare it is) and eBay to see what people would pay for it.

Anyone remember Steve Lawrence and English singer from the 40's 50's? Ibelieve he died in a car crash, perhaps 50's or 60's.
He had 33 hits (five of which were with Eydie Gorme) between 1952 and 1964. His three biggest hits were:
"Go Away Little Girl" (1963) - US Billboard 1 - Nov 1962 (17 weeks), NZ Lever 1 - Jan 1963 (5 weeks), US CashBox 2 of 1963, WABC NY 10 of 1963, US Radio 14 of 1963 (peak 1 11 weeks), Canada 18 - Oct 1962 (9 weeks), Brazil 36 of 1963, RYM 196 of 1962
"Footsteps" (1960) - Canada 3 - Mar 1960 (11 weeks), UK 4 - Apr 1960 (13 weeks), US Billboard 7 - Mar 1960 (13 weeks), Norway 9 - Jun 1960 (4 weeks), US Radio 88 of 1960 (peak 7 6 weeks)
"Portrait of My Love" (1961) - US Billboard 9 - Mar 1961 (16 weeks), Canada 9 - Mar 1961 (14 weeks), WABC NY 55 of 1961, US CashBox 81 of 1961, US Radio 90 of 1961 (peak 9 6 weeks)
He didn't do well enough to have his own page on this site.

Maybe you can help
It might have been a record by Red Ingle and the Hot Seven I have one which featured Jo Stafford (as Cinderella).
The main side is Timtayshun (Temptation) The flip side was "I Love You For Seventy Mental Reasons." There is an accordion featured on this record

Maybe you can help
My brothers and I remember a record Dad used to play that had a chorus that sounded like they were singing "Ka viva viva vit". We're all in our early 60's so the song was probably written or being played about the period of 5 years either side of 1950.
It was sung by a group, male and female in close harmony and had a bit of accordian in there and sounded a bit "Jo Stafford-ish". I can sing the tune all the way through but don't know the words and don't know the title. Do you have any idea what it could be called?
Here at the Turret we have no idea, maybe one of our users can help?
