ERBIL-Hewlęr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq',— Iraqi
President Jalal Talabani's party finished third
behind an opposition movement in the autonomous
Kurdish region's parliamentary polls, shaking a
decades-long duopoly on power, according to final
results released Wednesday.
The Chairman of IHEC, Mr Sarbast Mustafa, said that
out of the 111 seat parliament, 11 seats are
allocated for the minorities as a fixed quota; 5 for
Turkoman, 5 for Chaldean, Assyrian and Syriac, and 1
for Armenians.
The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Committee had
announced in a press conference held on Wednesday,
October 02, 2013, in the capital Erbil, the final
results of Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections for
2013:
1. Kurdistan Democratic Party gets 38 seats
2. Change Movement (Gorran) gets 24 seats
3. Patriotic Union of Kurdistan gets 18 seats
4. The Islamic Union of Kurdistan sets 10 seats
5. Islamic Brotherhood in Kurdistan gets 6 seats
6. The Islamic Movement gets 1 seat
7. Communist party (Freedom List) gets 1 seat
8. Kurdistan Communist Party gets 1 seat
9. The Minorities in Kurdistan get 5 seats for
Turkmen, 5 seats for Christians and 1 seat for Armen.
According to the minimum
30% quota, 34 members in the next legislature will
be women.

Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and Kurdish
region president Massoud Barzani's Kurdistan
Democratic Party have long dominated politics in the
three-province region in northern Iraq.
As no party won an absolute majority in the
111-member Kurdish legislature, a coalition
government will be formed.
Nawshirwan Mustafa's Change Movement (Gorran),
campaigned against alleged government corruption and
perceived heavy-handedness by private security
forces linked to the KDP and PUK.
