     Alexander Balfour of Dawyck was born on 3 September 1824.1 He was the son of Henry Balfour and Agnes Bisset.2 He married Janet Roxburgh, daughter of Reverend Dr. John Roxburgh, on 23 March 1864.3,4 He died on 16 April 1886 at age 61.5
     He lived at Leverbank, Fife, ScotlandG.5 He was a merchant and shopowner.5

     Janet Roxburgh was the daughter of Reverend Dr. John Roxburgh.2 She married Alexander Balfour of Dawyck, son of Henry Balfour and Agnes Bisset, on 23 March 1864.2,1 She died on 22 February 1923.1
     Janet Roxburgh also went by the nick-name of Jessie.2 From 23 March 1864, her married name became Balfour.2 She was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated her arms at the Lyons Court on 18 June 1902.3

     Sir Hugh Cholmley, 1st Bt. was born on 22 July 1600 at Roxby, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1 He was the son of Sir Richard Cholmley and Susanna Legard.1 He married Elizabeth Twysden, daughter of Sir William Twysden, 1st Bt. and Lady Anne Finch, on 10 December 1622 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Milk Street, London, EnglandG.1 He died on 20 November 1657 at age 57.1 He was buried at East Peckham, Kent, EnglandG.1 His will was proven (by probate) in November 1660.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Scarborough between 1624 and 1626.1 He was appointed Knight on 29 May 1626 at Whitehall, London, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Scarborough between 1640 and April 1643.1 He was created 1st Baronet Cholmley, of Whitby, co. York [England] on 10 August 1641.1 He gained the rank of General in 1643 in the Northern forces of England, for the King.1 He fought in the Battle of Gainsborough in 1643, with the Parliamentarians.1 He fought in the Battle of Malton in 1643, with the Parliamentarians.1 He held the office of Governor of Scarborough Castle between 1643 and 1645.1 In 1645 he surrendered to the Parliamentarians on very favourable terms.1 On 27 June 1649 he was compunded for £850.1
