     William Mabane, 1st and last Baron Mabane was born on 12 January 1895 at Leeds, Yorkshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Joseph Greenwood Mabane and Margaret Steele.1 He married, firstly, Louise Tanton, daughter of E. Tanton, in 1918.1 He and Louise Tanton were divorced in 1926.1 He married, secondly, Stella Jane Duggan, daughter of J. Duggan, on 31 March 1944.1 He died on 16 November 1969 at age 74.1
     He was educated at Woodhouse Grove School, Leeds, Yorkshire, West Riding, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 13th Yorkshire Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches.1 He graduated from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1920 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He graduated from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1923 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Huddersfield between 1931 and 1945.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Foreign Office in 1945.1 He was created 1st Baron Mabane, of Rye, co.
