     Ranald Macdonald, 18th of Clanranald and Moidart and 4th of Benbecula was born in 1692.2 He was the son of Donald Macdonald, 17th of Clanranald and Moidart and 3rd of Benbecula and Janet Macdonald.2 He married Margaret MacLeod, daughter of William Macleod, 1st of Luskentyre and Margaret Mackenzie.2 He died on 6 March 1766.2 He was also reported to have died on 28 November 1753.3
     In 1745 he took no active part in the Uprising.2

     Alexander 'Mor' Macdonald, 1st of Boisdale was born in 1698.1 He was the son of Donald Macdonald, 17th of Clanranald and Moidart and 3rd of Benbecula and Margaret Mackenzie.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Maclean, daughter of Hector Maclean, 12th of Coll and Janet Mary Campbell.2 He married, thirdly, Anne Macneil, daughter of Roderick ‘The Resolute' Macneil, 20th of Barra and Anne Macneil.2 He married, firstly, Mary Macdonald, daughter of John Macdonald, 2nd of Castleton and Anne MacLean, in 1718.1 He died on 28 May 1768 at Argyllshire, Scotland.3
     In 1741 he received a tack from his brother Clanranald of the lands of Boisdale, which he surrendered in 1756, receiving a feu charter of Boisdale in 1758.1 He purchased lands in Uist in 1748 from Allan Roy Macdonald, 7th of Morar.2
