     Patrick Hepburn, Master of Hailes was born circa 1494.1 He was the son of Patrick Hepburn, 1st Earl of Bothwell and Lady Margaret Gordon.1 He married, secondly, Katherine Fleming.1 He married, firstly, Nichola Home, daughter of Alexander Home, 2nd Lord Home and Nichole Ker.1 He died on 31 October 1576.1 His will was proven (by probate) on 23 October 1577.1
     He held the office of Sheriff of Haddington in September 1516.1 He held the office of Admiral-Depute on 16 February 1516/17.1 In June 1526 he harboured certain rebels in his twoer of Boltoun, which was burnt by teh force sent by King James V to tkae them.1 On 6 April 1529 he had a remission for treasonable assistance given to the Homes.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Berwick on 12 September 1541.1
