     Lionel Seymour William Dawson-Damer, 4th Earl of Portarlington was born on 7 April 1832.1 He was the son of Colonel Rt. Hon. George Lionel Dawson-Damer and Mary Georgiana Emma Seymour.1 He married Hon. Harriet Lydia Montagu, daughter of General Henry Montagu, 6th Baron Rokeby and Magdalen Hurley, on 19 April 1855.1 He died on 17 December 1892 at age 60.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of officer between 1849 and 1856 in the Scots Fusilier Guards.1 He fought in the Crimean War.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Portarlington between 1857 and 1865.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Portarlington between 1868 and 1880.1 He succeeded as the 4th Earl of Portarlington, in the Queen's County [I., 1785] on 1 March 1889.1 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Dawson, Baron Dawson of Dawson's Court, in the Queen's County [I., 1770] on 1 March 1889.1 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Carlow, co. Fergus Bowes-Lyon, son of Claude George Bowes-Lyon, 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Nina Cecilie Cavendish-Bentinck, on 17 September 1914.1 She married, secondly, Captain William Frederick Martin, son of Charles William Wall Martin, on 4 June 1919.1 She died on 29 March 1959 at age 68.1
     From 17 September 1914, her married name became Bowes-Lyon. From 4 June 1919, her married name became Martin.
