     William Archer Amherst, 3rd Earl Amherst of Arracan was born on 26 March 1836 at Lower Brook Street, Mayfair, London, EnglandG.1 He was the son of William Pitt Amherst, 2nd Earl Amherst of Arracan and Gertrude Percy.1 He was baptised on 3 May 1836 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, EnglandG.1 He married, firstly, Lady Julia Cornwallis, daughter of James Mann, 5th Earl Cornwallis and Julia Bacon, on 27 August 1862 at Linton, Kent, EnglandG.2 He married, secondly, Alice D'Alton Probyn, daughter of Edmund Probyn and Charlotte Seymour Jones, on 25 April 1889 at Christ Church, Down Street, Picadilly, London, EnglandG.2 He died on 14 August 1910 at age 74 at Montreal Park, Kent, EnglandG, from an operation for an infection of the throat undergone three months before, without issue.3 He was buried on 18 August 1910 at Riverhead, Sevenoaks, Kent, EnglandG, after being cremated two days earlier.3

     Lady Julia Cornwallis was born on 2 July 1844.1 She was the daughter of James Mann, 5th Earl Cornwallis and Julia Bacon.1 She was baptised on 23 July 1844 at Linton, Kent, EnglandG.1 She married William Archer Amherst, 3rd Earl Amherst of Arracan, son of William Pitt Amherst, 2nd Earl Amherst of Arracan and Gertrude Percy, on 27 August 1862 at Linton, Kent, EnglandG.1 She died on 1 September 1883 at age 39, without issue.1 She was buried on 7 September 1883 at Linton, Kent, EnglandG.1 Her will was proven (by probate) on 23 February 1884, at over £31,000.1
     She was given the name of Julia Mann at birth.1 On 22 October 1844 her name was legally changed to Julia Cornwallis by royal licence.1 From 27 August 1862, her married name became Amherst.1 After her marriage, Lady Julia Cornwallis was styled as Viscountess Holmesdale on 27 August 1862.1 Her last will was dated 17 February 1866.

     James Mann, 5th Earl Cornwallis was born on 20 September 1778.1 He was the son of James Cornwallis, 4th Earl Cornwallis and Catherine Mann.2 He married, firstly, Maria Isabella Dickens, daughter of Francis Dickens, on 18 December 1804.1 He married, secondly, Laura Hayes, daughter of William Hayes, on 22 January 1829.1 He married, thirdly, Julia Bacon, daughter of Thomas Bacon, on 4 August 1842.3,1 He died on 21 May 1852 at age 73, without surviving male issue.1

     Alice D'Alton Probyn was the daughter of Edmund Probyn and Charlotte Seymour Jones.1 She married, firstly, Ernest Augustus Malet Vaughan, 5th Earl of Lisburne, son of Ernest Augustus Vaughan, 4th Earl of Lisburne and Mary Palk, on 15 May 1878.2 She married, secondly, William Archer Amherst, 3rd Earl Amherst of Arracan, son of William Pitt Amherst, 2nd Earl Amherst of Arracan and Gertrude Percy, on 25 April 1889 at Christ Church, Down Street, Picadilly, London, EnglandG.1 She married, thirdly, Prince Jean Sapieha-Kodenski on 16 December 1914.2 She died on 27 April 1933.2
