Ultra pure it is a silvery white brittle metalloid element. Stable in
air and water, unaffected by acids, except nitric, and alkalis. Used in
semiconductors, alloys, and special glasses for infrared devices.
Diagnostic tests:
there are no simple chemical tests for germanium. Atomic Absorption
Spectroscopy is used for quantitative analysis and Energy Dispersive
Analysis of X-rays (EDAX) is used for qualitative analysis.
