This war action seinen anime was generally decent. The plot was interesting, and kept you hooked, but in retrospective, I felt it was somewhat ridiculous. Mankind, brought to the brink by a fleet of advanced retro WWII OP unmanned warships? What about satellite artillery? What about space warfare? In an era where those are regular aspects of futuristic war entertainment, I was left a little baffled by their absence. However, it was still fun. Speaking of space warfare, the extensive use of CGI, lasers and colourful effects made some of the battle segments look like, well, space battles, something I appreciated. Character-wise, they were generally likeable, however underdeveloped. As for the ending, it was decent and adequate, like the rest of the series as a whole, but nothing more than that.
Overall, it is recommended for war anime fans. And yes, it is much better than KanColle and other Japanese revisionist franchises disguised as exciting naval-themed anime. Worth the watch.
Has advanced warship and/or fighter plane which mental model/AI is represented as a cute girl
And they are fighting against some unknown enemy which is similarly as advanced

* The ships themselves, who always thought of themselves as a weapon and the humans were just one end of the stick; ships now have characters and now wanting to "fit in", "build friendship", "live on", etc, and,
* The humans, who always thought the ships were just a weapon; when they suddenly were given personification, humans began realizing that you don't have to be a human to have human emotions.
few other points:
* All ships depicted are based on ships that had existed at one point, most of the World War II, quite accurately including its weak-points and strong-points. (Mostly weak-points.)
* Marine rank system and naval battle procedures are rather well depicted. ("If you screw up badly, you will die.")
