Character: Butterfree (Satoshi)

Butterfree is a dual-type Bug/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Metapod starting at level 10. It is the final form of Caterpie. It also has a Gigantamax form.

Butterfree resembles a vaguely anthropomorphic butterfly with a purple body. Unlike true insects, it only has two body segments and four light blue legs. The upper pair of legs resembles small, three-fingered hands, while the lower pair resembles long, digit-less feet. Butterfree has two black antennae, a light blue snout with two fangs underneath, and large, red compound eyes. Its two pairs of wings are white with black venation. Two oval scales on a female Butterfree's lower wings are black, but they are white on a male.

As Gigantamax Butterfree, its size increases to gigantic length with altered look. The wings and its pattern changes to light and dark green color with white. The antennae change to bright green and extends to the point where the tip bends, and three red clouds surround it. The eyes changes to bright glowing red. A fur-like circle is attached to both the wings and back of Butterfree. Several green scales can be seen floating around Butterfree, which are its most effective weapons, capable of releasing paralysis, poisoning, or sleep. The massive wings are powerful enough to lift a 10-ton truck through a simple flap. The wind it generates can scatter poisonous scales throughout the area, making it dangerous to be near it.

Butterfree's wings are covered with poisonous powders that fall off continuously as it flies. It will defend Caterpie from bird Pokémon using this powder. This powder also repels water, enabling it to gather honey even in the rain. Butterfree will roam up to six miles (ten kilometers) from its nest in search of honey, which it carries with the hairs of its legs. Sometimes it has territorial disputes with Cutiefly over fields of flowers. It also consumes sap from trees pierced by Heracross, as seen in the anime. Butterfree is found in temperate forests and jungles, but it has also been observed flying near the ocean as part of its migratory breeding pattern.

Gigantamax Butterfree is the only known Pokémon capable of using the exclusive G-Max Move G-Max Befuddle.

Go wanted to catch as many Pokémon as he could and one day while in a forest in the Kanto region, he caught every Bug type Pokémon native to Kanto. It was spotted on the top of a tall tree which Go climbed in order to get Butterfree.

Butterfree resides at a habitat at the Sakuragi Institute in Vermilion City. It is not the evolved form of Go's Caterpie or Go's Metapod as they are separate Pokémon.

Round 5 - Vs Ash Ketchum

Happy was selected first by Ritchie and was up against Ash's Squirtle. Both Pokémon traded blows until Ritchie ordered Happy to use Sleep Powder and managed to put Squirtle to sleep which eliminated it from the battle.
Ash's next Pokémon was Pikachu and it quickly launched itself at Happy and managed to pin it onto the arena floor. Happy managed to get back into the air but Pikachu held on and used a Thunderbolt attack to beat Happy which put the battle back on level terms.

Happy battles against Assumpta's Venomoth in the sixth round.

Jeremy's Butterfree competed in the first round of the Silver Town Pokemon Contest.

Solidad's Butterfree was seen during the Grand Festival.

Drew's Butterfree was seen in a battle against May.

Butterfree shrunk down back to its normal size.

The Pink Butterfree was love at first sight for Ash's Butterfree when it went looking for a mate in the flock of Butterfree. It tried to impress it with its moves and courtship dance but it was initially unimpressed and slapped Ash's Butterfree so it would leave her alone.

After getting captured by Team Rocket, its attitude towards Ash's Butterfree changed after it saw just how hard it worked for free it and the rest of the Butterfree. It later decided it liked Ash's Butterfree and the two of them ended up leaving to cross the ocean and have offspring.
