Umbreon is one of two Eevee evolutions that first featured in Pokémon Gold and Silver, the other being Espeon. It is called the "Moonlight" Pokémon. It has rabbit-like features displayed strongly in the shape of its head and eyes, a reference to the Japanese idea that you can see the head of a rabbit on the face of the moon. One of Umbreon's most noticeable features is the yellow rings visible around its body. The Pokédex states that the rings will glow when Umbreon leaps to attack, becomes excited, or when there is a full moon. Umbreon are said to evolve as a result of love for their trainers and the moonlight; forcing one to walk during the day can also cause stress to it. They are described as preferring to lurk in darkness while waiting for their opponents to make the first move. If angered, they can secrete powerful poisonous sweat from their pores.

Johanna's Umbreon was first seen at Dawn's house when Ash and his friends came to visit for the Twinleaf Town Festival. It battled alongside Johanna's Glameow during a battle against Dawn.

Gladion's Umbreon is the evolved form of Gladion's Eevee. It seems to stay outside of its Poké Ball a lot and walks beside Gladion on their travels.

When Rocket Gang stole Gladion's Lycanroc (Midnight Form), it managed to burst it's tire with its Dark Pulse to stop them from getting away.

Soleil's Eevee evolved into Soleil's Umbreon one day when she was younger. When she was scared by a Crobat, her Eevee protected her. It evolved at night the same day that her Soleil's Espeon had evolved. During the group battle at the Eclipse Castle balcony, it helped defeat Ilunas's Pokémon.

Zuki's Umbreon lives in Ecruteak City.

Virgil's Umbreon is the evolved form of Virgil's Eevee. While Virgil was about Ash's age, he went out to explore the forest with the first Eievui he had befriended. Getting carried away, he walked in too far. Not only had he become lost in the forest, but the sun had also set; just when he thought all hope was lost, his Eievui evolved into Blacky. Thanks to Virgil's Umbreon, Virgil got out of the forest and a special bond between him and Eievui was born.

Isshu League Tournament
Virgil's Umbreon participated in the Isshu League Higaki Tournament. In the third round it was matched up against Flora's Gothitelle where it defeated it and eliminated Flora from the tournament.

Virgil's Umbreon was sent out to rescue Ash's Pokémon who were cornered by a Dustdas and four Yabukuron after Ash's Oshawott ate all their food by accident.
